Hundreds of people filled the cathedral to sing hymns and songs while being filmed for the BBC programme.  The special recordings will feature in two future editions of the programme marking the city’s status as European Capital of Culture.

Filming lasted three hours following rehearsals last Monday overseen by conductor David Lawrence.  Lit with purple light, worshippers sang at full voice alongside Aled Jones.

The recording comes the day after the Cathedral’s Easter service was broadcast live on the BBC.

Songs of Praise attracts an average of four million viewers each week, and is believed to be the most-watched and the longest-running religious TV programme in the world.
