The Album includes arrangements of well-known works such as Jersualem and Bach's Air on a G String as well as less
familiar melodies and new compositions. One of the CD's highlights is Love and Mercy by former Beach Boy Brian Wilson, himself a choirboy when he was young, which Libera recently performed at the 30th annual Kennedy Center Honors, America's national celebration of the arts. Libera performed the song to a star-studded audience including President Bush, Robert de Niro, Cameron Diaz and Vanessa Williams, not to mention the honorees of the evening; Diana Ross, Steve Martin, Leon Fleisher, Martin Scorsese and Brian Wilson, some of whom were moved to tears by Libera's performance.
The boys of Libera are between the ages of seven and fourteen, come from a variety of backgrounds and attend local scholls in South London. The members of the group are based in a church where they form the treble part of the choir for Sunday services each week, and as Libera their vocal material extends from Classical and cathedral works to songs for pop and media productions. They have appeared as back-up singers with Bjork, Elton John and Pavarotti and featured in the soundtracks of films such as Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet and Ridley Scotts Hannibal. The ensemle's Music Director is the composer, arranger and conductor Robert Prizeman.
Libera has an enthusiasic fan base in many countries, particularly the United States, Great Britain, Japan and Korea, where their previus Cd's have enjoyed great success in the charts. The ensemble's performances have a strong visual style, the boys appearing in long flowing robes on imaginatively lit stages.
The members of Libera are "normal" boys who are into all the regular things for their age group - football, PSP's, skateboards... Through their involvement in Libera they have travelled the world, recorded movie soundtracks and CD's and served as back up singers to mega-stars. But, as one of the boy's said, "The travelling and filming is fun but even if we didn't go anywhere I'd still want to do it because I just love singing." That joy of singing comes across clearly in their performances and on their recordings.
The latest album is chacterised by Libera's distinctive celestial, shimmering sound with Mystical chords and ecstatic harmonies and is a great opportunity to re-discover, or hear for the first time, their ever inspiring and unique talent.
