Health check for Fron choir members ahead of a busy schedule

The Fron Male Voice Choir has been given a check up by popular TV doctors to make sure they are fighting fit.

The team from BBC1's Street Doctors visited the world's oldest "boyband" before they embark on their UK tour to offer their skills and expertise.

The tv doctors were in Chester filming their third series in which they take the pulses of the nation in a bid to get cities healthy, when they took a break to visit Acrefair School where the choir were rehearsing.

Choir chairman David Jones said: "I'm glad it was not a wasted journey for them.

"We usually have quite a few choristers with complaints about one thing or another but tonight only two came forward."

However, the filming did not stop the choir from having their usual practice as they are preparing for a busy period.

Their UK tour kicks off on April 6, at St David's Hall, Cardiff, and then the choir will be recording their third album.

Before then they have a St David's Day Concert in Newtown on March 1 and the rescheduled concert at the William Aston Hall, Wrexham, with harpist Catrin Finch, Rhys Taylor on the clarinet and percussionist Dewi Ellis Jones.

This concert was originally planned for February 1 but Cardiff-based Kissan Records, the concert's promoter, cancelled the concert when they received a bad weather forecast which, fortunately, never arrived.

On January 26 their second album Voices of the Valley Encore was released in Australia and it is predicted that this will be as successful as Voices of the Valley which went straight to the top of the classic charts and was awarded an Australian gold disk within weeks of going on sale.

Encore has already achieved gold disk status in the UK and it envisaged that this will be presented to the choir at Cardiff's St David's Hall and it is expected to soon reach platinum status and this will be presented to the choir at their concert at Royal Festival Hall, London.

Despite being on tour, the choir is honouring a concert already in their calendar and will be travelling back from a Friday night concert in Gateshead's Sage Theatre on May the 9 to appear on Saturday, May 10, at the Stiwt Theatre, Rhos.

Tom Clayton, from Johnstown, who sings second bass with the choir said: "It will be good to appear at the Stiwt, while it is a fantastic experience to be part of these sell out concerts at large venues, the audience are quite far away from us, there is nothing to beat the intimacy you get between performer and audience that you have at the Stiwt."
