Tenor At The Movies, his new album, finds the classically-trained warbler tackling 12 popular movie themes in his usual classy-as-champagne-*****tails style. Taking a break from his hectic promotional schedule, he stopped by to answer your questions earlier today. What a gentleman! Without further ado, here's what happened when Jonathan Ansell joined the DS forums.
Marian asked: "How did it feel this morning to wake up and know that your album is out there, in the shops, up and down the country?"
"I did find it very odd having my debut album out there, yes! It was so mad being able to see it there all over the place. I have wanted to be able to have that since I was really young, so for it to actually be happening was incredible."
Sweetpea1 asked: "What criteria did you use to choose the tracks for the album?
"The criteria for choosing the tracks was initially great music, but also music that was really important in the movie - not just superficial tracks that happen to play at the end. Something that really reminds you of the scene and takes you back to the action/event. Also, they couldn't be the clichéd tracks that have been done to death, like 'My Heart Will Go On' from Titanic. I wanted them to be slightly unique and therefore special for me."
Cathyk2002 asked: "What is your favourite track?"
"My favourite track on the album is 'Now We Are Free'. I love the sentiment and the energy."
BenLomond asked: "Will this album be eligible for the classical charts? If so, it's a sure-fire number one!"
"My album is eligible for the classical charts, so let's hope it tops the chart!"
BenLomond also asked: "Will you be doing your own tour this year?
"I am hoping to tour very soon. I'm just hoping that I can get some time in the office to find out what's being planned. I love touring and I can't wait to be out on the road singing live - [it's] the best part of the job by far!"
Willowy35 asked: "If you could perform at any venue in the world, where would it be and why?"
"If I could perform in any venue in the world, it would be Sydney Opera House. I have always wanted to go to Australia, and it's just such an iconic venue."
Cathyk2002 asked: "Who in the world would you most like to duet with?"
"I would love to be able to duet with Elton John. I love his music and, well, it would just be so cool."
JessicaL asked: "What is your favourite movie?"
"My favourite movie is Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory - the original of course. Love it, especially the sweets, chocolate and music. [It's] just a great fantasy film, especially as a kid."
Glittersteph asked: "What is your preferred movie snack? Have you ever tried M&M's with popcorn?"
"I love hot dogs as a movie snack, or perhaps a bag of sweets. I love to get the pick 'n' mix so you only have the best ones. I have never tried M&M's with popcorn, no, but I might have to try it!"
JessicaL asked: "Who are your favourite movie stars?"
"I really love Robin Williams - how he takes on each roll and is so convincing."
Merity asked: "Would you like to do a song for a film score?"
"I would love to record a movie theme one day. Let's hope that I get a chance, because it would be really good."
Daisy-Chain asked: "What is the history of the ring you wear on your right hand?"
"The history of the ring I wear on my right hand is that a mate made a ring in a silver-smithing class and gave it to me. I bought the one I wear now as a present to myself when G4 signed our first record deal. I would love to be able to get one with more diamonds though, so it would really glisten while holding my mic."
Daisy-Chain also asked: "Who is your current tailor?"
"My suits are from all different places, not one tailor. The DJ I have been wearing recently is from Paul Smith."
Tallulah_maybe asked: "Do you think the public attitude to classical music has changed over the last few years?"
"I do think that the acceptance of classical music has grown. I am really pleased to be part of this change. I hope that its popularity grows and grows."
Jonathan Ansell's album Tenor At The Movies is out now.
