Kiwi song bird Hayley Westenra has landed the biggest selling album for 2007, beating big-selling overseas acts Paul Potts and Linkin Park to No. 1.
In preliminary results issued today, Westenra’s album Treasure was crowned the biggest seller in New Zealand in 2007.
Potts’ Once Chance was at No. 2 and Linkin Park’s Minutes to Midnight at No. 3.
Two other Kiwis also landed in the top 10: Brooke Fraser at No. 4 with Albertine, and Hollie Smith’s Long Player at No. 10.
No New Zealand artists were in the singles charts, which were topped by Rihanna’s Umbrella.
Fergie’s Big Girls Don’t Cry scored the No. 2 slot, and Timbaland’s The Way I Are was No. 3.
Opshop also did well, scoring the No. 1 most played song in New Zealand with Maybe.
Today’s stats are based on sales up to December 9, and do not include the lucrative Christmas sales period.
Full sales data for the year will be released in January, 2008.
