Angels keen for more success

Shrewsbury teenager Melanie Nakhla today released her second album with her girl group All Angels following a performance at the town's Abbey.

The album, called Into Paradise, includes reworkings of hits such as Coldplay’s The Scientist and Prince’s Nothing Compares 2 U.

The girls sang at Shrewsbury’s Abbey on Saturday, thrilling the audience with their classical harmonies, including a performance of The Sound of Silence from the CD.

Last year, the girls had a top 10 hit with their debut platinum-selling album.

Today Melanie, a former Shrewsbury High School pupil, said she was thrilled - but also nervous - about the new album.

She said: “We really wanted to push ourselves even more than with the first one and hopefully people will be able to notice that and notice a progression in our voices, which have matured.

“And we have bonded as a group so hopefully people can notice that through our voices and we have some really tricky ones on there.

“We have a vocal version of the Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, which is a big orchestral piece, and now we are singing to it.

“We really enjoyed recording that and we are singing in different languages, which I really enjoyed.

“On the pop side, we have a really good mix, with Prince’s Nothing Compares 2 U and Coldplay’s The Scientist - we really loved singing that one.

“It’s a little bit different to the original but we did not want to exactly copy it - we wanted to give it our own take.

“One of our favourites to perform is The Sound of Silence because it’s a fantastic arrangement by our musical director and has lots of intricate harmonies. We really enjoy singing that and can do it completely unaccompanied - just four voices - so it’s really effective.

“The whole process probably took about two months including editing and the mixing.

“It took a couple of weeks recording our voices and was really intensive. We had to make sure that we had early nights and were eating healthily. I have never drunk so much water in my life and had to keep going to the loo every 20 minutes.

“My mum and dad have listened to the album and they really liked it.

“I did see a few tears in my dad’s eye even if he didn’t admit to them.”
