Whatever Happened to Yulia?

A lot of people have been asking the question 'What happened to Yulia?'

The answer is that she has studied at University, developed and honed her acting and voice skills and has knuckled down and written new songs. She has become a lithe dancer regularly vamping up the hearts of wanton men in Christchurch nightclubs, but always keeping them at arms length. Add to this 3 hours a day at the gym and we have an artist that has deftly crafted the blank canvas that Uk music industry needs to paint upon a Diva.

At 21 years of age, Yulia has a number of six figure options on the table both in NZ and overseas but is prepared to sacrifice everything to make even one great thing. She's toured and performed in various parts of the world with Engelbert Humperdinck, Dame Malvina Major, Michael Barrymore, Russel Watson, Ivan Rebroff and Amici Forever developing lasting friendships with artists that just love and adore her. Proudly displayed in her music room at home in Christchurch is a photo of her snuggling up to the late Luciano Pavorotti.

People often find it hard to differentiate New Zealand's (NZ) Haylee Westenra from Yulia. It's simple. Haylee is nice and Yulia has the Spice. Each artist has something special. Well of course the critics think so and YULIA has collected two Tui's (NZ's equivalent of a Grammy), she has attained the status of six times platinum with the two albums "Into the West" and "Montage" and has two number one hits in NZ. At 21 she's 100% kiwi, a seasoned music industry veteran and determined to become one of NZ's celebrated exports.

Yulia's new songs "Languages" and "Magnificent Other" scored her a publishing deal with a very special music publisher, one who feels artists should be empowered by owning their own copyright. She's smart and she's savvy and this girl means business. In a fast moving industry that is currently going through dramatic change, Yulia has been smart enough to align herself with innovative kiwi's to help her navigate the way. The young entrepreneur owns shares in Starlight Music and Invincible Records, and is part of the export focussed OIKOS MUSIC GROUP, is "calling the shots" on her career and has invested wisely in property with the support of her NZ father, Bill Townsend. She is hands on in every aspect of her growing business "Yulia Music Ltd", including heading towards finding and developing NZ's future Diva's with young hopefuls already under her wing.

Look into her eyes and you'll see that mystical blend of innocence that draws you ever inward, that makes you want to love again or dance like no one is watching. She has the charisma and stage presence of Edith Piaf, Kate Bush or Marlene Dietrich; the sweet innocent nymph who is absolutely in charge of her sensuality, with contradicting looks that juxtapose between shy and flirtatious. If we had to describe Yulia in a sentence then we'd suggest she's a mix of sweet innocence and femme fatale. In a recent full house at Christchurch Town Hall, Yulia performed a song from Carmen in full splendid character, cavorting sensually around a male from the audience. Expect the unexpected.

Yulia's demo "LANGUAGES" is up on MYSPACE and demonstrates a more upbeat popera singer than anyone could have anticipated. Her latest unreleased songs have all scored well above 7.0 at hitsongscience.com a facility many record labels use to get mathematical and scientific feedback on a songs hit potential. A score of 7.0 denotes "a hit" with the song "Languages" scoring 7.08 from a company the majors rely on to make money. Yulia is one of several BRM-OIKOS Asia Pacific artists whose songs rank well above 7.0 and this includes Tv & Film composer Glyn MacLean, Singer Songwriter Anne Taylor UK based Music Publisher, Bruce Ruffin will soon be presenting Yulia to the UK music producer famous for propelling the musical careers of Kelly Clarkson and Kylie Minogue. He is confident it won't be long before she begins a new "international" career emulating the success of Kate Bush, first in UK and then USA.
