Jones steams up on limo-bike for ‘spine-tingling’ performance

Former boy soprano Aled Jones delighted a packed crowd at the May Day concert in Ely Cathedral on Monday.

More than 1,000 people filled the cathedral to see Jones perform highlights from his repertoire of hymns and hits from musicals, including a reprise of his famous Walking in the Air, for which he now sings the tenor part.

Jones rushed to Ely by "limo-bike", straight after presenting his popular slot on Radio 2. He arrived just in time for his opening song.

In addition to the cathedral's choristers, Jones was accompanied by the Ely Imps, a children's community project choir with just one year of performing experience. The Imps performed magnificently and demonstrated a stunning improvement in their singing skills.

Sallyann Ford, Ely Cathedral's Events & Visitors Manager, said: "The concert was truly wonderful. Aled's performance was spine-tingling.

Aled had to take the limo bike up to Ely as he was presenting Drive Time on radio 2 until 6.00! So he presented the programme in his best shirt and suit, and was then whisked up to Ely to sing at 7.45!
